The Hamburg Ocean Atmosphere Parameters and Fluxes from Satellite Data (HOAPS) set is a completely satellite based climatology of precipitation, evaporation and freshwater budget (evaporation minus precipitation) as well as related turbulent heat fluxes and atmospheric state variables over the global ice free oceans. All variables are derived from SSM/I passive microwave radiometers, except for the SST, which is taken from AVHRR measurements. The latest release, HOAPS-3.2, includes the entire SSM/I record from 1987-2008.
The products are available as monthly averages and 6-hourly composites on a regular latitude/longitude grid with a spatial resolution of 0.5° × 0.5° degrees. For detailed information, see the ››Documentation section.
The current version - HOAPS-3.2 - is available via the CM SAF web user interface: ››CM SAF: HOAPS-3.2.
Please check the ››Data Access page on how to download HOAPS-3.2 data.

The current operational release of HOAPS-3.2 from CM SAF does not include all of the parameters from the previous version HOAPS-3, but a selected subset. In order to make the remaining and ancillary HOAPS parameters easily available to the research community, it has been agreed between CM SAF and the HOAPS group at the MPI-M / UHH to distribute these parameters also via the CM SAF Web User Interface. Support is provided by the HOAPS group at MPI-M / UHH and thus any request regarding these parameters should be sent to info@hoaps.org.
See the ››Data Access page for details.

We would appreciate to receive a short notice if you use HOAPS for your research objectives and/or used HOAPS data in your publications. We kindly encourage any kind of suggestions from the research community on possible improvements of the HOAPS dataset.
